# Fitting your well cover: _one morning, four anchors_

Fitting is within reach of a competent DIYer — provided you respect the resin anchoring and the levelling. Here is the workshop’s method, the one in the supplied instructions.

Dry fit

With the cover resting on the coping, check that all four lugs seat properly and mark the drill points with a marker. This is the moment to adjust, not later.

Drilling & anchoring

12 mm bit, 90 mm deep, then blow the dust out thoroughly — the step everybody skimps on, and the one that makes the anchor hold — then inject the resin and set the stainless studs.

Levelling & tightening

Once cured (20 to 45 minutes depending on temperature), pack it, check the level in both directions, and tighten the dome nuts. Done.

## Why _resin_ anchoring — and nothing else

Copings are a hundred years old or more: their mortar is dead and their stones are sometimes cracked deep inside. Expansion bolts split that kind of substrate; nylon plugs spin in old drill holes. A resin anchor glues the stud into the mass with no expansion stress: it is the only fixing we guarantee in old stone. The supplied instructions give the maximum tightening torque — over-tightening on soft stone does more damage than under-tightening.

### When to choose our fitting service

Three cases. Large-diameter domes (60 kg to offer up without scratching the stone: a job for two people who have done it before). Lockable covers (the adjustment of hinges and hasp determines how smoothly it will work for twenty years). And visibly fragile or listed copings, where we may switch to the counterweighted frame with no drilling at all. In those cases, the €150 – 300 of the fitting service is the best line on the quote.

After fitting: nothing, or nearly. An annual glance at the four nuts, a rinse with clean water, and a paint touch-up after a knock — the galvanising underneath does not move. Your cover is good for decades; the upkeep detail is on each [model page](https://grille-de-puits.fr/en/models/).

Frequently asked

## Fitting: your questions

What tools do I need to fit it myself?

A hammer drill with a 12 mm masonry bit, a cartridge of resin anchor, a blow-out pump, a spirit level and a spanner. The stainless fixings (studs, washers, dome nuts) come with the cover.

Can it be fitted without drilling the stone?

Yes, on listed or fragile copings: a counterweighted frame that grips the masonry, with zero drilling. Mention it on the quote — the frame is made accordingly.

What does your fitting service cost?

€150 to €300 depending on the model, the coping and the region, scheduled at delivery. On large domes and lockable covers it is the option we recommend.
