FAQ
The twelve most frequent questions
How much does a made-to-measure well cover cost?
From €390 (flat, ⌀ 80 cm) to €1,400 (large lockable dome), galvanised, supply only. All the tables are on the prices page.
How do I measure my well?
Two diameters at right angles, taken at the outside edge of the coping, plus the width of the stone. A paper template is supplied for the exact shape — full method on the measuring page.
My well is not round — is that a problem?
None: almost no old well is round. The cover is rolled to the paper template you send back — it follows the real shape of your coping.
How long does it take to make?
Three to five weeks depending on the season, dispatch included. Exact reproductions add one to two weeks of drawing work.
Where do you deliver?
France and Belgium as standard, and by quotation to Luxembourg, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Ireland and the United Kingdom. The cover travels crated on a pallet; carriage is priced on the quote by destination, and for the UK customs clearance and import VAT are shown as separate lines.
Can I fit it myself?
Yes: four resin anchors, a spirit level, one morning — instructions and stainless fixings supplied. Detailed method on the fitting page. Our fitting service: €150 – 300.
Will the cover take a person’s weight?
Yes: a 40 × 8 mm frame and 14 mm solid bars carry an adult. It is designed precisely to stop the fall.
How do I keep access to the water?
With the lockable model: a hatch on forged hinges, hasp and stainless padlock supplied. A bucket and a pump strainer both pass through.
Am I legally required to make my well safe?
There is no specific standard, but article 1240 of the French Civil Code makes you liable for a fall. For gîtes and holiday lets, insurers require the well to be closed — detail on child safety.
What upkeep should I expect?
A rinse with clean water once a year, a glance at the fixings every five years, a paint touch-up after a knock. The galvanising does the work underneath — 20-year guarantee.
Can you reproduce my antique cover?
Yes, from photographs and a survey: restoration if the structure is sound, exact reproduction if not (+ 15 to 25 %). See heritage wells.
Does asking for a quote commit me to anything?
No: free, no obligation, valid for three months. A third of our enquiries are people checking a quote they were given elsewhere.
